msconfig is what you are looking for.

May I suggest a Thinkdesk beta subsciption Link too? {This is a self-serving request - more users means more focus - means more updates - means better apps}

There's a product called SecureProcess that looks interesting. But there is a sub-componant called Startup Manager that rocks.

Sample of Secure Process startup manager. Crappy compression, sorry.

Make sure you know what you're doing before messing around with msconfig. Could really screw things up.

You can stay safe by using on the "Startup" tab in "msconfig".

As Adamness indicated, steering clear of the other tabs might be best without prior knowledge or competent instruction.

To enter the System Configuration Utility (msconfig), go to "Start > Run > type: msconfig > press "Enter".

When the System Configuration Utility dialog displays, you can safely click the "Startup" tab, and you will see many of the "programs" that run at startup. This is not a comprehensive list, but disabling these can be done and undone without major issues, other than the perhaps a program not working correctly.

Note - some of these processes probably belong to your Anti-Virus, and perhaps Firewall programs, so be wary of what you disable.

If a problem occurs, reenter msconfig, and click the "Normal Startup" option on the General tab > click Apply > OK > Restart computer.

You can also use CCleaner to check your startup lists. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/CCleaner_Crap_Cleaner/1100194579/1

I did this a long time ago to make my Computer star a little faster and it worked. But now I want to enable some of those things and I can't get System Configuration Utility dialog to display. I'm doing this because I wanted to enable IconX on start up, I click on the IconX settings to start when windows start but i won't do it even thought is selected, And I remebered I disabled Smart StartUp when I did this a while ago. I want to enable it but I can't System Configuration Utility to show.
